A woman who was injured in a train collision in the Murmansk region has died

A woman died in an ambulance after a collision of freight and passenger trains in the Murmansk region. This was reported in the press service of Russian Railways on December 18.

"Unfortunately, one of the victims of the derailment of the train № 11 Murmansk - St. Petersburg died in the ambulance," - stated in the message published in the Telegram-channel.

The company expressed condolences to the family and friends of the victim, and also promised to provide the necessary support to her family - RZD will pay 2 million 200 thousand rubles to the relatives of the victim.

Alexei Kuznetsov, an aide to Russian Health Minister, said that 11 people were injured in the accident.

"According to operational data, 11 people, including a teenager, were injured in the train accident in the Murmansk region. The condition of five of them is assessed as serious, six people, including the teenager, [are] in moderate condition. The injured have been evacuated to the Kandalaksha Central Regional Hospital. One person died," he told reporters.

Two trains collided earlier in the day when a passengertrain arrived at the Knyazhaya station in the Murmansk region. According to the Russian Railways press service, a passenger train traveling on the Murmansk-St. Petersburg route collided with a freight train. As a result of the collision, three cars of the passenger train and several freight cars derailed. At the time of the accident there were 326 people in the passenger train.

After the collision of the trains, the transport department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of railway transport").

"Izvestia" also published footage from the passenger train. They show people trying to pass from one carriage to another, but because of the deformation, the doors do not open. Some passengers can not get to their belongings, as they remained in the affected parts of the train.
