Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, has greatly hindered the West with his investigations. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova at a briefing on December 18.

The diplomat called Igor Kirillov's death an irreparable loss, and the general himself a dedicated to his duty, reliable and decent man.

"He served fearlessly, defended his homeland, did not hide behind his back, he became a real bone in the throat for various Russophobes in the West," the diplomat noted.

She pointed out that Kirillov became a whistleblower of the American laboratories in Ukraine, disclosed the facts of the use of chemical weapons by Ukrainian militants, making a dirty bomb and preparing provocations using bioagents.

"For many years he systematically, reasonably exposed the criminal activities of the Anglo-Saxons and NATO, in general, in the area where they have made the world the arena of the next manipulations: chemical weapons, biological security," Zakharova added.

She said that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) had unsubstantiatedly opened a criminal case against the Russian general on a made-up pretext. And, having committed a terrorist attack, they covered themselves with the alleged legality of actions, which does not exist in Ukraine.

"We saw that the Kiev regime took responsibility. <...> Everything is managed by the Anglo-Saxons, they are the main beneficiaries of Kiev terrorism," Zakharova concluded.

Shortly before that, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the detention of a 29-year-old Uzbek citizen in the case of the murder of Kirillov and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov. It specified that during interrogation, the attacker explained that he was recruited by the Ukrainian security services. The detainee may face punishment up to life imprisonment.

Igor Kirillov and his assistant were killed on the morning of December 17 as a result of detonation of an explosive device planted in a scooter near the entrance. The explosion occurred near a seven-story apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. A criminal case of murder, terrorist act and illegal arms trafficking (Article 105, Article 205 and Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) was opened over the incident.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Igor Kirillov had been systematically exposing the crimes of the West for many years, worked fearlessly and never hid behind the backs of others. In turn, Rodion Miroshnik, ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Ukraine's crimes, said that the evidence cited by the general was threatening and painful for Russia's adversaries.

Kostroma Region Governor Sergei Sitnikov said Kirillov had warned that he was being hunted. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller later said the US had nothing to do with the terrorist attack in Moscow that killed servicemen. Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder also said that the U.S. was not involved in the attack and did not contribute to it in any way.
