An explosion occurred on the morning of December 17 on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. As a result, killed the head of radiation, chemical and biological defense troops (RCDBZ) of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant. What happened

- The explosion was heard at about 06:10 at a seven-story apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue. According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was strong. People, having woken up, did not immediately realize what had happened.

- According to investigators, the explosive device was planted in a scooter, standing near the entrance of the apartment building, and detonated remotely.

- Fragments of the explosive device were found during the inspection of the scene. Forensic experts also seized other items of significance to the investigation.

- The footage from the scene shows that the blast wave damaged windows and doors. The area around the building is cordoned off. Operational services are working at the site.

Information about the dead

- The official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia Svetlana Petrenko said that two people were killed - the head of the RCDBZ troops Igor Kirillov and his assistant.

- The general was 54 years old. He held the post of the head of radiation, chemical and biological defense troops of the Russian Armed Forces since May 2017.

- After the start of the Special Military Operation (SMO), Kirillov exposed the US military-biological activities, and also reported on the preparation of a provocation by the Security Services of Ukraine (SBU) using a chemical warfare agent.

- Later, the identity of the general's aide became known. The deceased is named Ilya Polikarpov. In addition to service, he was engaged in humanitarian activities. He left two small children.

A criminal case has been opened over the explosion

- The investigation opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes under Art. 105, 205 and 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder", "Terrorist act", "Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, forwarding or carrying of weapons, main parts of firearms, ammunition").

- Surveillance footage has been seized for examination. In the near future, a number of examinations will be appointed, including medical and explosive-technical. At the scene of the explosion also worked robot sapper.

- In the capital prosecutor's office reported that they control the establishment of all circumstances, including the progress and results of the investigation of the criminal case.

Officials' reaction

- Commenting on the incident, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Kirillov systematically exposed Anglo-Saxon crimes and NATO provocations. According to her, he worked fearlessly and did not hide behind his back.

- Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador-at-large for Ukraine's crimes, pointed out that the evidence cited by the deceased was too painful and threatening for "someone".

- Colonel General Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee, called Kirillov a professional of the highest class and a strong-spirited man, and his service an example of high citizenship.

- The situation was also commented on by the vice-speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev. He said that he had worked closely with Kirillov within the framework of the parliamentary investigation into the activities of US biolaboratories in Ukraine. The speaker expressed confidence that those responsible for the death of Igor Kirillov and his assistant would be punished.

The issue of the terrorist act will be raised at the UN Security Council meeting

- Russia intends to raise the issue of the terrorist attack at the UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting requested for December 20, First Deputy Deputy Ambassador of Russia's mission to the world organization Dmitry Polyansky said in his Telegram channel.

- The diplomat said that the international community should unequivocally condemn the incident and those responsible for the death of the Russian military should be held accountable.
