Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces (RCDBZ), who died in a terrorist attack in Moscow, was a true Russian officer, devoted to his homeland. This was stated to "Izvestia" on December 17 by the president of the Scientific Research Center (SRC) "Kurchatov Institute" Mikhail Kovalchuk.

"The death of General Igor Anatolievich Kirillov is a huge, irreplaceable loss. It was a real Russian officer, infinitely devoted to the Motherland and the cause he served," the scientist noted.

He added that the head of the RCBZ troops was a deeply educated man, a specialist in his field and a very interesting conversationalist. He was also a positive man with a great sense of humor.

"He was interested in everything from the global organization of the world to specific problems of chemical analysis. And he was very well versed in all these diverse issues. He will be sorely missed by all of us. We deeply mourn together with his family and friends," Kovalchuk said.

Earlier on December 17, LDPR Chairman Leonid Slutsky recalled the joint work with Kirillov. He called him the highest professional and recalled the time when they studied the centers of chemical and biological impact on people, created by the U.S. around the world, in particular on the territory of Ukraine.

The deaths of Igor Kirillov and his assistant became known earlier in the morning. According to the version of the investigation, the military died as a result of detonation of an explosive device planted in a scooter, standing near the entrance. The explosion occurred near a seven-story apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. A criminal case of murder and terrorist act was opened over the incident.
