Criminalists have collected fragments of explosives and other physical evidence from the site of the explosion at a house on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow, which killed the head of the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops of the Russian Armed Forces (AF), Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant. This was reported by the official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia Svetlana Petrenko on December 17.
"During the inspection of the scene of the incident, items of significance for the investigation were found and seized, including fragments of an explosive device," Petrenko said, her words are quoted in the IC's Telegram channel.
The fragments of explosives and other evidence will be subjected to the necessary expertise. Witnesses are being questioned, the investigative-operative group continues to work at the site of the explosion, joined by employees of the Main Department of Criminalistics of the IC.
In addition, the investigation has been transferred to the Main Investigative Directorate of the IC because of the complexity of the crime and the need to conduct special studies in expert bodies at the federal level.
In addition, Izvestia has at its disposal footage of the situation immediately after the explosion near the house. They show how the operational and rescue services: police, sappers, ambulance crews and fire brigades are approaching the scene. Eyewitnesses stand not far from the site of the explosion.
General Igor Kirillov and his aide died earlier in the day. The men were fatally injured after detonating an explosive device planted in a scooter standing near the entrance. The explosion occurred near a seven-story apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow. A criminal case of murder and terrorist act has been opened over the incident.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out that General Kirillov had been systematically exposing Western crimes for many years. He worked without fear and never tried to hide behind the backs of others, fighting for the Motherland and the truth.
Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev called Kirillov's death an irreparable loss and shock. The senator expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized that the killers of the general and his aide would not be spared and would undoubtedly be punished.
