The weather forecaster told about sharp temperature spikes in December

The head of the Meteo forecasting center Alexander Shuvalov told on Monday, December 16, what weather is expected in the capital region in the coming days.

According to the forecaster, before going into the plus area of the temperature scale, the region should be visited by strong frosts.

"So we are on a weather Russian roller coaster. Let's make ourselves comfortable. The temperature drop will begin the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, -6...-8 degrees in the afternoon, and by evening to -12...-14 degrees," Shuvalov said in a conversation with Radio 1.

He added that the coldest will be on Thursday night - up to -19 degrees.

According to Shuvalov, the coldest days are still ahead, but the cooling itself will be short - a maximum of 36-40 hours, and then may rise to zero degrees.

On the same day, leading specialist of the information agency "Meteonovosti" Tatiana Pozdnyakova told "Izvestia" that the weather in Moscow this week will be quite unstable, the atmospheric pressure will change significantly. On December 16 and 17, the temperature will approach zero, precipitation is expected. On Monday, snow and snowstorms are expected, later light rains, possible wet snow with drizzle, which may cause the formation of icicles. In some places ice is possible. Wind speed may reach 12-15 m/s, and by evening a snowstorm is not excluded.

Before that, on December 3, the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand said that winter on the territory of the Russian Federation promises to be variable and heterogeneous. The forecaster noted that in Siberia, especially in the northern part, the winter weather will be 5-10 degrees above normal.
