The State Duma rejected the bill on non-working December 31

On December 12, the State Duma rejected a bill that was supposed to include December 31 in the list of non-working holidays. This follows from the card in the Duma database.
The authors of the bill proposed to remove January 8 from the list, and instead make December 31 a non-working day.
"Long-term practice shows that if December 31 falls on a working day, labor functions are not performed in full, many workers on this day take time off, take leave without pay in order to prepare for the New Year together with family and friends," - said in the explanatory note.
The document also referred to the incoming appeals of Russians with a request to make December 31 a day off.
Earlier, November 13, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Paternity, Maternity and Childhood Vitaly Milonov assessed the initiative to cancel the working Saturday on December 28. In his opinion, people before the New Year will be able to spend more time with their families thanks to the non-working Saturday on December 28.
On the same day, Duma deputy Stanislav Naumov appealed to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko with a proposal to allow regional authorities to establish December 28, 2024 as a day off at their discretion.
Before the New Year, Russians will have a six-day working week from December 23 to 28. The New Year vacations will last from December 29 to January 8.
