New Year's holidays - 2025: why work on Saturday, whether we rest on December 31

New Year's Eve is one of the most long-awaited holidays of the year. Many Russians love it not only for the presents, olivier and the atmosphere of magic, but also for the long winter vacation. At the junction of 2024 and 2025, the citizens of our country will rest from work and study for 11 days. December 28 - what day we work for

At the end of December, Russians are waiting for a long work week - will have to work six days, from 23 to 28 of the day. Changes in the calendar caused by the transfer of the day off from Saturday to Monday, December 30. This was done to extend the New Year vacations. At the same time, the working day on December 28 will not be reduced.

In 2025, there are other postponed weekends. Since the holidays January 4 and 5 fall on Saturday and Sunday, they were shifted to Friday, May 2, and Wednesday, December 31.

"Moved" to other dates and non-working days February 23 (Sunday), March 8 (Saturday) and November 1 (Saturday). Thanks to this, Russians will rest on February 22-23, March 8-9, May 1-4, May 8-11, June 12-15 and November 2-4.

December 31 - working day or not

According to labor legislation, non-working vacations in Russia are considered to be January 1-6 and January 8 - these are New Year's vacations. Non-working also includes January 7 - Christmas Day.

New Year's Day on December 31 is not a day off from the point of view of the law. If it falls on a weekday, you will have to go to work and study, despite the lack of labor mood. In June this year, the head of the Russian Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov said that the agency will consider the possibility of declaring December 31 a non-working day, but there is no final decision on this issue.

In 2024, December 31 falls on Tuesday. However, thanks to the transfer of the day off from January 5, the last day of December will be a non-working day.

How to rest on New Year's Day 2025 December at work

Taking into account all transfers and changes in the production calendar, at the junction of 2024 and 2025, Russians will rest from December 29 to January 8. In total, this is 11 days - a day more than last year.

Since January 8 falls on Wednesday, the first working week of 2025 will be very short - two days. A total of 17 working days will remain in January after the holidays.

Experts note that because of the small number of working days, January is disadvantageous for vacations. The fact is that the salary for the month with vacation consists of salary, which is calculated in proportion to the actual days worked, and vacation pay, which is calculated based on the average daily wage.

Since there are few working days in January, their value increases significantly, but the average daily wage does not change. Therefore, if an employee goes on vacation, he will receive less than usual. For vacation, it is best to choose the months with the highest number of working days. In 2025, these are July and October.
