US President-elect Donald Trump compared the situation in the Middle East to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, saying that it is easier to defeat the crisis. He said in an interview with Time magazine on December 12.

"It's easier to deal with the Middle East than what's going on with Russia and Ukraine," Trump noted.

The president-elect also added that the Ukrainian conflict would never have happened if he was the current head of the United States and not Joe Biden.

In addition, the Republican said that the number of soldiers killed in the conflict is staggering. He added that he would seek a negotiated settlement.

On November 22, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has every opportunity to end the conflict because Washington has all the tools to end hostilities. He noted that Moscow does not rely on Trump or anyone else in the Ukrainian issue.

On November 14, Trump promised to "work very hard" to end the conflict in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow will wait for proposals to this effect and is ready to consider them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin named the conditions for negotiations on Ukraine at a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry back in June. Thus, Ukrainian troops should leave the territories of the new regions of the Russian Federation, and Kiev should give up the idea of NATO integration.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
