Brazilian president undergoes second surgery after brain hemorrhage


Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva underwent a second operation after a cerebral hemorrhage. This was reported on December 12 by the Brazilian newspaper O Globo.
According to the doctors, the operation was successful. The Brazilian leader has already regained consciousness.
It is expected that the President will be discharged from the hospital in a few days and will return to duty.

Earlier, on December 10, the president was emergency hospitalized due to a brain hemorrhage. Medics called it the result of a head injury that Lula da Silva suffered in October at his home. The politician underwent surgery to remove the hematoma. He was reported to be in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
On the same day, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin temporarily took over some of the hospitalized head of state's duties. Several events are on the schedule, including a reception in honor of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, a bilateral meeting, document signings and a press statement.
On October 20, Reuters reported that the Brazilian president will not travel to the BRICS summit following doctors' recommendations after suffering a head injury at home. According to a medical report from a hospital in Brasilia, Lula da Silva suffered a laceration to the back of his head. He was advised to avoid long-distance air travel.
