The motor ship "Meteor" won the vote for the symbol for the new Br1 thousand bill

The high-speed passenger hydrofoil "Meteor" has won the popular vote of the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) for the symbol for the updated Br1,000 bill. The voting results were published on December 12 on the regulator's website.

According to the Central Bank, more than 147 thousand people voted for the Meteor, and a total of about 700 thousand Russians took part in the online voting.

"Which symbols will occupy the first plan and which the second, how many there will be, what can be presented in the form of microdrawings, will first be determined by our artists. They will develop sketches. The final version, which will become the basis for the new banknote, will be chosen by the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia", - the words of the Chairman of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina are quoted on the website of the regulator.

It is specified that the Bank of Russia plans to present the updated thousand-dollar banknote at the end of 2025 at the National Center "Russia".

What coincidences were found with the preliminary results of the CB popular vote

The day before, Nabiullina voted online for the design of the reverse side of the bill of Br1 thousand.

Earlier, November 28, the Central Bank presented variants of images for the Br1 thousand banknote. The banknote is dedicated to the Volga Federal District. The regulator chose 25 out of about 40 variants of images to replace it, while its front side will remain the same - with images of Nizhny Novgorod. Then Nabiullina noted that the symbols on the banknote "should unite, and not generate disputes".

The modernized thousand was put into circulation on October 16, 2023, but was recalled two days later because the image on the back of the Orthodox Church, which has been used for secular purposes since the beginning of the last century, was without a cross. At the same time, the Syuyumbike tower with a crescent moon was depicted nearby, which caused a flurry of criticism towards the Central Bank from Orthodox activists. Therefore, the regulator decided to completely redesign the reverse side, and the symbols for it are chosen by popular vote.
