- The State Duma pointed out the harm to the West from the new package of sanctions against Russia

Anti-Russian sanctions primarily harm their initiators. The new 15th package of the European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia is political in nature and does not pose any significant risks to the Russian economy. This was stated on December 11 by Alexei Kanaev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade.
Earlier in the day, the Hungarian representation in the Council of the EU in the social network X reported that the permanent representatives of the 27 countries of the association agreed on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia because of the conflict in Ukraine. It is noted that the new package of measures includes individual sanctions, as well as restricts the activities of third-country vessels assisting the Russian Federation.
"All the main sanctions, which in one way or another could harm the Russian Federation, to date have already been adopted. And these sanctions are harmful first of all to the initiators of their introduction, as practice has repeatedly proved. The current sanctions are once again more of a political nature, personal character, clarifying nature," - quotes Kanayev's commentary "Duma TV " for "Izvestia".
The politician also noted that more and more often the collective West is beginning to call on third countries to put pressure on Russia. However, he believes that other states are unlikely to like such an imposition.
"We'll wait and see, but I don't see any significant risks for the Russian economy from the 15th package of sanctions," concluded the interlocutor of the publication.
Earlier, December 6, it became known that representatives of the EU countries failed to agree on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. The package provided for the extension of the Czech Republic's right to import Russian oil products, coming mainly through Slovakia. There was also talk of sanctions against tankers transporting Russian oil.
Prior to that, on November 26, Bloomberg reported that Brussels plans to impose restrictions against more than 45 Russian oil tankers as part of the 15th package. Also under threat are more than 50 individuals and about 30 organizations.
Western countries have increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
