Ambassadors of the European Union (EU) countries have agreed on the 15th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was announced by the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council on December 11 in the social network X (former Twitter).

"The package supplements the already existing sanctions list with new individuals and entities and is directed against organizations in Russia and third countries that indirectly contribute to the military and technological strengthening of Russia by circumventing export restrictions," - stated in the message.

It is noted that the new package of sanctions against Russia was formed in response to Russia's "aggression" against Ukraine.

Earlier, on December 6, it became known that representatives of the EU countries failed to agree on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. The package provided for the extension of the Czech Republic's right to import Russian oil products, coming mainly through Slovakia. There was also talk of sanctions against tankers transporting Russian oil.

Prior to that, on November 26, Bloomberg reported that Brussels plans to impose restrictions against more than 45 Russian oil tankers as part of the 15th package. Also under threat are more than 50 individuals and about 30 organizations.

Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
