Britain called Trump's indifference to Zelensky in Paris vengeance

The apparent indifference shown by US President-elect Donald Trump to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office ended on May 20) at a meeting in Paris was a kind of revenge for the way the Ukrainian president treated the future head of the White House during his visit to the United States. This opinion was expressed on December 10 by British analyst Alexander Mercouris.
"I don't think he (Trump. - Ed.) is ready to spend a lot of time on Zelensky. His behavior in recent days [at the meeting in Paris] confirms this. No wonder, when Zelensky came to the US in September, he [too] was [initially] not interested in meeting with Trump," the analyst noted in his YouTube blog.
Mercouris suggested that Trump's meeting with Zelensky in September in New York likely left far from the best memories. The atmosphere at the talks was tense. In addition, afterward, the Ukrainian politician revealed confidential details of the meeting with the new US President regarding granting Ukraine NATO membership and obtaining nuclear weapons.
"He told what he talked about with Donald Trump. <...>. I assume that Trump was not enthusiastic about it," the analyst added.
Earlier, on December 8, The New York Times reported that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the opening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris demonstrated Kiev's willingness to make concessions on negotiations in the conflict with Russia. It was specified that Ukraine perceived the opening ceremony as an opportunity to get closer to the future US leader and convey to him its position in the conflict. In addition, it was reported that Zelensky's meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Trump in Paris lasted about 20 minutes, without a final statement. After it, the US president-elect said that Zelensky would like to "make a deal" with Russia.
Then it was also reported that the Trump team did not support the proposal of the head of Zelensky's office Andrei Yermak on the return of the country to the borders of 2022. It became known that Yermak at a meeting with the Trump team presented proposals on the borders of Ukraine 2022 and joining NATO.
After, on December 8, an expert of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, political scientist Denis Denisov said that Trump's words about the readiness of Kiev to make a deal with Moscow are propaganda and slogans. He called it obvious that the trilateral meeting between Trump, Zelensky and Macron could not discuss concrete plans because it was "painfully small."
The last meeting between Zelensky and Trump took place on September 27 at Trump Tower in New York City. During the talks, Trump even then expressed hope that he would be able to find a suitable option for everyone to settle the Ukrainian conflict before his inauguration, if he wins the election in November. In turn, Zelensky presented Trump with a so-called victory plan.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
