Rada says majority of Ukrainians want to end the conflict

Verkhovna Rada deputy Yuriy Boyko said in an interview with the British Times on December 9 that the majority of Ukrainians want the conflict to end.
"Most people in Ukraine really want peace," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
In addition, he emphasized that the end of the conflict is especially relevant for the residents of the frontline territories of the country.
According to the deputy, international negotiators should be involved in the settlement, as Kiev is now unable to enter into a dialog with Moscow. The negotiations will be held under the control of the USA, Boyko is convinced.
On the same day, political analyst Oleksandr Dudchak said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired in May, and the West do not want a full-fledged peace settlement. A cease-fire in Ukraine should not be the beginning of negotiations, but their last point.
On Dec. 8, the West expressed hope that the tripartite meeting between U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Zelensky at the Elysee Palace, attended by French leader Emmanuel Macron, allowed for the preparation of future steps on Ukraine after Trump's inauguration in January. The New York Times also reported that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the opening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris demonstrated Kiev's willingness to make concessions on negotiations.
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Trump's words about Kiev's willingness to "make a deal", reminded that President Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and welcomes proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries.
Earlier, on November 26, it was reported that almost two-thirds of Ukrainians were in favor of starting negotiations with Russia to freeze the conflict. 34% were confidently in favor of negotiations, while 30% of participants preferred to vote for "rather agree".
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
