Central Bank will not use images of iconic objects for modernized banknotes

The Central Bank has refused to depict religious buildings on the 1,000-ruble banknote, the reverse side of which the regulator is now working on again. The modernized 1,000-ruble banknote was put into circulation last October, but was quickly withdrawn due to the dissatisfaction of Orthodox activists.
The Central Bank intends to adhere to the approach with the refusal to use religious objects for other banknotes scheduled for modernization - 500, 50 and 10 rubles.
"We will keep this principle for other banknotes that we have to modernize. After all, Russia is a multi-ethnic, multi-confessional country. It is inhabited by people with different unique traditions, people who profess different religions," said Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Belov.
