The updated thousand-dollar banknote with a corrected reverse side will be put into circulation, most likely, closer to the end of next year, Central Bank Deputy Chairman Sergei Belov said in an interview with Izvestia.

Until December 12, citizens will choose the objects of the Volga Federal District (VFD), to which the banknote is dedicated, and then work on its production will begin. According to the deputy head of the Central Bank, the stages of development of the banknote are several: first a conceptual design is prepared, then a sketch project, then preparation for production, production of the printing project and only then the printing of the circulation.

"In general, there is a big and long work to be done, it usually takes about a year. It is very difficult to name a specific date now, but most likely it will happen closer to the end of the year," said Sergey Belov.

The modernized thousand was put into circulation on October 16 last year, but two days later it was recalled because the image on the reverse side of the Orthodox Church, which has been used for secular purposes since the beginning of the last century, was without a cross. At the same time, the Syuyumbike tower with a crescent moon was depicted nearby, which caused a flurry of criticism of the Central Bank by Orthodox activists. Therefore, the regulator decided to completely redesign the reverse side, and the symbols for it are chosen by popular vote.
