Finland predicts the end of the conflict in Ukraine on Russia's terms

The conflict in Ukraine should be ended on Russia's terms. This was stated on December 7 by Tuomas Malinen, a professor at Helsinki University and geopolitical expert.
"Since Russia dominates events on the battlefield, peace must be concluded on the Kremlin's terms," he wrote in his blog on the Substack platform.
According to the professor, if this does not happen, Moscow could push the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) "to unconditional surrender." This option would lead to the same result, but with more severe consequences for Western countries, Malinen pointed out.
Earlier in the day, US President-elect Donald Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would like to "make a deal" with Russia.
The Wall Street Journal, citing a source on December 5, also reported that the Ukrainian side is ready to start negotiations on a sustainable peace with Russia. The piece noted that "conflict-weary Ukraine" is ready for a cease-fire if it is allowed to join NATO.
Russian President Vladimir Putin back in June at a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry named the conditions for negotiations on Ukraine. Thus, Ukrainian troops should leave the territories of the new regions of the Russian Federation, and Kiev should give up the idea of NATO integration.
The last round of negotiations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4 of the same year, the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the impossibility of holding talks with Putin was put into effect.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
