The Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) has submitted a resolution on sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine for discussion in the Bundestag. This was reported on the website of the German parliament on 6 December with a reference to the relevant document.

In it, the parliamentary group calls on the federal government to provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles to attack Russian military-strategic facilities.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) should be provided with "all the weapons and ammunition they need without further delays and without range restrictions," the resolution says.

One of the points of the document is also a call to give Kiev a guarantee for NATO membership and outline a "concrete prospect" of membership in the alliance. In addition, the party favors the allocation of another aid package for Ukraine before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, clarifies "Gazeta.Ru".

Earlier, on December 4, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, returning from a trip to Kiev, said that Germany will not give its permission to Ukraine to strike with long-range weapons deep into the territory of Russia, as well as will not supply Taurus cruise missiles.

Prior to that, on December 2, upon his arrival in the Ukrainian capital, Scholz announced the allocation of €650 million worth of arms to Kiev. The politician said he wanted to "make it clear that Germany will remain the main country in Europe supporting Ukraine."

On November 17, The New York Times reported that US President Joe Biden had authorized Ukraine to use US long-range missiles to strike Russia. The next day, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Scholz refused to give a comment on the topic to Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
