European leaders intend to continue a destructive line to escalate the Ukrainian conflict. This is how the Kremlin's official representative, Dmitriy Peskov, assessed the statement by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the continuation of support for Kiev.

He added that such statements are made daily in the West.

"These statements are made daily by representatives of various European states. They intend to continue further their destructive line," the presidential spokesman said.

Responding to a journalist's question about whether there is a sense to continue contacts after Scholz's statement, Peskov noted that there is always a sense to continue contacts and renew them. He also reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin always remains open for dialog.

The day before, on December 2, Scholz expressed support for Kiev in a message to Putin during his visit to Ukraine. He also said that assistance to the Ukrainian people from his side will be provided "as long as necessary."

On the same day, Scholz announced a €650 million arms allocation to Kiev. He also said he wanted to "make it clear that Germany will remain the main country in Europe supporting Ukraine." Scholz arrived in Kiev for the first time in 2.5 years.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which Russia announced on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
