Scholz expressed support for Ukraine in message to Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed support for Kiev in a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Ukraine. He wrote about it on December 2 on his page in the social network X (former Twitter).
"My message from Kiev to Putin: we are in this for the long haul. Our support for Ukraine will not wane," the German chancellor said in the message.
He also said that assistance to the Ukrainian people from his side will be provided "as long as necessary."
Earlier in the day, Scholz announced the allocation of €650 million worth of arms to Kiev. He also said he wanted to "make it clear that Germany will remain the main country in Europe supporting Ukraine." Scholz arrived in Kiev for the first time in 2.5 years.
Prior to that, on November 26, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock told a meeting of G7 foreign ministers that the FRG was ready to transfer two more Iris-T systems to Ukraine. One of them will be medium-range, and the second - short-range, the equipment should be delivered in December.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
