- Inmates of a social center in Altai Krai have been diagnosed with an infectious disease

Massively ill people in the social center in Kalmansky district of Altai Krai were diagnosed with "acute infectious gastroenterocolitis". This was reported on November 29 in the Ministry of health of the Altai region.
"The diagnosis they all have at the moment is acute infectious gastroenterocolitis," the regional ministry told TASS, citing information from Anna Smirnova, head of the infectious diseases department at City Hospital No. 5.
The Department of Rospotrebnadzor for Altai Krai told TASS that the cause of death of the social center's guests was presumably not poisoning, as was initially assumed, but an unidentified infection. A forensic medical examination will be conducted to clarify the cause.
In addition, the regional agency said in its Telegram channel that it is conducting an epidemiological investigation in the social center: samples of drinking water and food, washes from products and surfaces, tests from the sick and contact persons were taken. These materials are being studied.
"The Department issued orders for final disinfection and phagicization (a method of preventing the disease, when the patient is injected with microorganisms capable of fighting the causative bacteria. - Ed.) of contact persons, a protocol on temporary prohibition of activity is drawn up. The epidemiological investigation continues", - stated in the message of the regional Department of Rospotrebnadzor.
November 28, it was reported that three residents of a private social service center died in the village of Kalistratikha in Altai Krai. Several more people from the institution sought medical assistance, later the number rose to 25 people.
The wife of the head of the center, Natalia Gelfenbein, told Izvestia that the infection could have been brought by one of the residents, who stayed at the center for a short time, fell ill and died. Soon after, other residents began to complain about health problems.
The next day, Izvestia showed footage from the social center showing medics evacuating the sick. Doctors are dressed in protective suits, pensioners are carried out on gurneys and sent to hospitals in ambulances. At the same time Gelfenbein noted that the cause of mass illness was not poisoning, but rotavirus.
The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the region opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the requirements of safety of life and health of consumers, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence").
