What happened in Altai

The incident occurred in a private social center "Rubicon" in the village of Kalistratikha Kalmansky district. At the end of the week, the guests began to complain of a sharp deterioration of health. The preliminary cause was poisoning. Ambulances arrived at the social institution for emergency hospitalization of the residents.

The footage from the scene shows an ambulance crew in protective suits evacuating the victims from the institution. The residents are carried out on gurneys and loaded into cars to be sent to hospitals.

What caused the poisoning in the Altai social center

In the morning on Friday, November 29, it was reported that the indisposition of the residents of the social center could be caused by rotavirus infection. However, the exact results of the tests will appear in a week, said then the director of the center Alik Gelfenbein. He is currently detained for investigation.

According to the director, there were 28 people in the center, including pensioners, disabled and people of pre-retirement age.

The wife of the head of the center "Rubicon" Natalia, in turn, told "Izvestia" that the infection could have been brought by one of the residents of the center. According to her, the man stayed in the institution for a short time, soon he fell ill and died. After the incident, the other wards of the center began to complain of ill health.

Later it was reported that the cause of death of the guests may not have been poisoning, as initially assumed, but an unidentified infection. Then the Ministry of Health of Altai Krai specified that the sick were diagnosed with "acute infectious gastroenterocolitis".

Patients were taken to the infectious disease department of the city hospital № 5 Barnaul. In the social institution itself, samples of drinking water and food, washes from products and surfaces, as well as tests from the sick and contact persons were taken for study.

According to the latest data, three guests died from the infection. The number of people affected has risen to 25 since the evening of Nov. 28, including several employees of the facility. According to the head of the infectious diseases department No. 2 of the medical institution Anna Smirnova, five patients are in serious condition, now they are in the intensive care unit.

The head of Altai Krai Viktor Tomenko said in his Telegram-channel that everyone whose health suffered during the stay in the private center is provided with the necessary medical care. He also promised to raise the issue of strengthening control over the work of social centers in the region.

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee (ICS) of the Russian Federation for the region opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the safety requirements of life and health of consumers, which caused the death of two or more persons by negligence").
