The European Parliament (EP) intends to propose to the European Union (EU) the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia. This is stated in the document published on November 28 on the EP website.

The restrictions may affect a new package and will concern the metallurgical, nuclear, chemical and banking industries. Also in the document touches on the topic of Ukraine.

"The European Parliament calls on the European Commission to offer long-term financial assistance after 2027 for the reconstruction of Ukraine," - quotes "RIA Novosti".

According to the document, the European Parliament will propose the creation of a new mechanism for financing military supplies for Kiev, replacing the existing fund blocked by Hungary. The renewed alliance will include only those countries that are willing and able to provide aid.

It is also expected to call on the EU to increase the supply of airplanes and long-range missiles for Kiev. It is specified that no less than 0.25 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) should be allocated for military aid to Ukraine.

Earlier, on November 18, the Council of the European Union (EU) blacklisted three Russian shipping companies - MG Flot, VTS Broker and Arapax, as well as the company Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its director Mohammad Reza. The EU cited Tehran's alleged support of Moscow for the special operation as the reason. The next day Britain imposed sanctions against the All-Russian children's and youth movement "Junarmia" and the center of military-patriotic education "Avangard".

On October 14, European Parliament member Lebos Blaga said in an interview with Izvestia that sanctions against Russia mean a long-term prospect of economic suicide in Europe.

Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
