- Zakharova did not rule out future Western authorization for Kiev's possession of nuclear weapons

The West may grant Ukraine permission to have nuclear weapons in the future, as it has already repeatedly ignored the provisions of international treaties. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this on November 27.
"There is no doubt that the collective West may well grant Ukraine the opportunity to acquire nuclear weapons. Our opponents have repeatedly proved that no international treaties and obligations deter them. I cannot say that we have any factual information that we can share at this stage," she said at the briefing.
Zakharova noted that it is in the interests of truly responsible states not to allow such a development. At the same time, the diplomat pointed out that the actions of the Kiev regime and its Western curators could bring the world to the brink of catastrophe.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Moscow regards the possibility of transferring nuclear weapons to Kiev as madness, which Western countries use as a kind of motivation for the Ukrainian authorities.
On the previous day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov described the proposals by Western officials to return nuclear weapons to Ukraine, which were reported in foreign mass media, as irresponsible reasoning. He categorized such an idea as "extremely extremist flank".
Earlier, on November 25, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green, commenting on media reports that the administration of incumbent President Joe Biden is seriously considering transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine, called it a crazy idea. She suggested it was an excuse to stop the transfer of power to President-elect Donald Trump.
Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an updated nuclear doctrine on Nov. 19. The amendments, in particular, for the first time introduce a definition of a potential adversary against whom Russia is conducting nuclear deterrence.
Peskov specified that the norms in this area are thus brought in line with the situation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also noted that Russia is strictly committed to the position of preventing nuclear war and defends a world in which nuclear weapons should never be used.
