Dermatologist told about ways to restore weathered skin

Any type of skin is exposed to weathered skin, but dry, combination and atopic skin is more prone to it, said Marina Kartasheva, dermatovenerologist, pediatric dermatologist, cosmetologist, leading specialist of the Semeynaya clinic chain, in a conversation with Izvestia on November 27.
According to the expert, weathered skin can occur in unfavorable weather conditions, as well as with improper use of care products in relatively normal weather. The dermatologist specified that in this case, children's skin recovers much better and external means are enough.
"To prevent weathered skin, cold creams are used to protect the skin from moisture loss with subsequent violation of its integrity and barrier functions. Cold-cream contains oils that form a dense protective film on the surface of the skin. If, nevertheless, weathered skin could not be avoided, various products that may contain dexpanthenol, madecassoside, glycerin, ceramides, omega acids, urea are used for recovery," Kartasheva explained.
The cosmetologist said that the most powerful regenerative effect have cica-creams based on Centella asiatica. Such products can be used not only when the skin is weathered, but also when receiving wounds, burns or after cosmetic procedures.
"If, nevertheless, the weathered skin is accompanied by redness and itching, this condition is called simple irritable dermatitis and requires treatment by a dermatologist," the specialist added.
As the doctor noted, adult skin takes longer to recover due to a deficiency of moisturizing factors and hyaluronic acid. According to her, to prevent such a condition for the winter period it is necessary to change the care external means. She advised using milder cleansers, thicker creams, not to neglect sunscreen and not to expose the skin to prolonged exposure to the cold without protection.
"Periodic hyaluronic acid deficiency prophylaxis is also recommended. For this purpose, scheduled procedures of biorevitalization, mesotherapy or physiotherapeutic methods of moisturizing are used. If the skin has already weathered, to avoid the consequences of this damage, regeneration procedures such as plasmotherapy, mesotherapy, collagen injections can be used, "- said Kartasheva.
Dermatovenerologist emphasized: frequent episodes of weathered skin without proper recovery can lead to the formation of such a condition as rosacea, which is accompanied by redness on the face and the formation of blood vessels. In addition, frequent chronic weathered hands can result in the formation of lichenization, which is a layer of thicker skin that has a darker hue. In such a case, recovery requires not only products that may contain urea and salicylic acid, but possibly peels or phototherapy once hydration levels are restored.
Earlier, on November 19, Natalia Mikhailova, candidate of medical sciences, dermatovenerologist, scientific director of the company MARTINEX, told "Izvestia" that the skin of hands in winter lacks resources for recovery, so in this period it should be cared for more carefully than in summer, and first of all pay attention to intensive moisturizing. According to the expert, you do not need alcohol lotions and disinfectants to cleanse the skin, soaps and gels are good enough to wash away bacteria and do not dry out the skin.
