Criminal case opened after Russian plane caught fire at Antalya airport

A criminal case has been opened over the fact of fire of the Sukhoi Superjet airplane of Azimut airline at the airport of Turkish Antalya. This was reported in the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia on November 25.

"Western interregional SU on transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia on the fact of ignition of the fuselage of the aircraft opened a criminal case on the signs of a crime under part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of air transport")", - stated in the message of the Department in its Telegram-channel.

It recalled that no one was injured in the fire. Specialists have preliminarily calculated that the damage from the incident amounted to at least 1 million rubles.

Investigators of the transport IC examined the place of departure of the Sukhoi Superjet at the airport of Sochi, seized the necessary documents for the investigation, appointed forensic examinations and are working to clarify the circumstances and causes of the fire.

Passenger Natalia said that when landing the aircraft received a sharp blow, fuel began to leak, and then the engine caught fire. According to her, the crew of the plane tried to calm people down, who helped each other and left the plane by going down the inflatable ramp. Passenger Yevgeniya added that the power went out in the Sukhoi Superjet after the sharp impact of the landing.

The Russian Consulate General in Antalya said that some Russians safely left the airport. The rest decided to wait for baggage claim and were provided with food. Those passengers who were supposed to take a return flight to Russia on the plane that caught fire will stay in a hotel until a reserve plane arrives.
