An Azimut Airlines Sukhoi Superjet 100 airplane traveling from Sochi caught fire while landing at the airport in the Turkish city of Antalya. On Sunday, November 24, the portal AirportHaber reported that the plane of the Russian airline Azimut caught fire while landing at Antalya International Airport. It was specified that the fire occurred in the engine. The runway was closed and the fire was extinguished. At the same time, the representative of Rosaviatsiya Artem Korenyako said that there were no fatalities as a result of the incident.

Russian diplomats went to the scene to assist Russians on board the plane. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian consulate and foreign institutions are working together with Turkish authorities to help with the situation. The Russian Consulate General in Antalya also made a similar statement.

After that, Antalya airport was closed for arrivals until 3:00 local time (coincides with Moscow time). According to a statement from the Turkish Ministry of Transportation, 89 people and six crew members were evacuated from the plane. None of them were injured. Also, according to the airline's press release, the reason for the rough landing of the airplane in the airline called wind shear.

In addition, the names of the airplane crew members became known, including the aircraft commander Chernov V.N., trainee commander Pryadkin A.S., co-pilot Podrubilin D.A..

Another passenger of the flight, Natalia, told Izvestia that after a sharp impact on landing, fuel began to leak out, and then there was an engine fire. According to her, the crew of the airplane tried to calm down the passengers, who helped each other and got out of the inflamed aircraft by going down the inflatable ramp.

Later it became known that the passengers of the plane wrote a class action lawsuit against the airline Azimut. The victims indicated in the document that they inhaled carbon monoxide and asked the airline for "proper support". In the press service of the company they were offered to contact a representative of the airline by phone or in the arrival area of the passenger terminal of Antalya airport.

Possible cause of the airplane fire

Honored test pilot of the USSR, aviation expert Viktor Zabolotsky in a conversation with Izvestia suggested that the rough landing of the plane could have caused the destruction of the tank or fuel lines, which subsequently caused the fire. He pointed out that the flight was landing in difficult weather conditions.
