Abkhazia's Foreign Ministry talks about plans to develop relations with Russia


Russia is a strategic ally of Abkhazia, and the republic's Foreign Ministry intends to further work on strengthening relations with Moscow, the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry told Izvestia.
"The Russian Federation is a strategic ally of the Republic of Abkhazia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, as always, will continue to work within its competence to develop and strengthen the whole complex of interstate Abkhaz-Russian allied relations," the Foreign Ministry said.
It should be noted that the opposition of the republic also intends to strengthen relations with Russia, member of the initiative group "KharaKhpitsunda" Arsou Huapshykhu told Izvestia. Earlier, the leader of the Abkhazian People's Movement organization Adgur Ardzinba also reported that the protests are not anti-Russian in nature.
On November 19, the parliament of Abkhazia accepted the resignation of the republic's leader Aslan Bzhania from the post of president after protests in the republic.
