The result of this work was the resolution on the International Year of the Family in 1993, which also established a new holiday — International Day of Families. This made it possible to bring family values and family protection policy to a new level. The initiator of the celebration was personally the UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who headed the organization from 1992 to 1996.

The International Day of Families even has its own logo. It is a green circle, in the center of which runs a red line, repeating the outline of the heart under the roof of the house. The image symbolizes a house where love and mutual understanding reign.
