- Russians were advised to delete unnecessary accounts to protect themselves from fraudsters
Reducing the number of accounts on the Internet can help Russians protect themselves from phishing attacks and personal data leaks. Andrey Rybnikov, a lecturer at the Department of Instrumental and Applied Software at the Institute of Information Technology of the Russian Academy of Technical Sciences, MIREA, told about this on November 6.
"If you have only five or seven key services left, you know their interface, their writing style, and their behavior. The forgery immediately catches the eye," the specialist explained in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
According to Rybnikov, the large number of registrations and subscriptions makes it difficult to recognize fraudulent messages. Attackers use this by creating fake pages of banks, marketplaces, and other popular platforms. At the same time, the constant stream of notifications reduces the attentiveness of users, which is why they are more likely to click on suspicious links.
The expert recommended regularly checking the list of services used, deleting abandoned profiles and rejecting unnecessary mailings. He also advised avoiding registrations for the sake of one-time offers, as each additional account increases the risk of personal information leakage.
The materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation dated November 5 state that remote fraudsters distribute malicious software under the guise of applications for checking vehicle history, with which they steal the savings of Russians and issue loans for them.
