American astronauts on the ISS appreciated Russian canned meat
American astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) willingly eat Russian cottage cheese and canned meat. This was announced on November 2 by Ivan Wagner, a cosmonaut pilot and lecturer at the Russian Society Znanie.
"We share and exchange products periodically. They have their own delicious products, and we have our own. For example, everyone likes our cottage cheese. We also have very tasty canned meat, [colleagues] are happy to fly in and eat our canned meat," Wagner told TASS.
The cosmonaut clarified that steaks and steaks are present in the American diet. However, he noted that the Russian space menu as a whole is more diverse and includes more full-fledged dishes.
In addition, the Russian drew attention to the change in taste preferences in zero gravity. According to him, while in orbit, many astronauts experience an increased need for bright flavors — spicy, salty, sweet and sour. In this regard, crews often order delivery of adjika and pepper to the station.
Wagner made two space flights as a flight engineer. The first one lasted 196 days— from April 9 to October 22, 2020. For the second time, he was in orbit from September 11, 2024 to April 20, 2025, spending 220 days in space. During this expedition, he also worked as a special correspondent for TASS on the ISS.
As part of the second flight, Wagner, together with cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin, performed a spacewalk according to the program of the Russian segment of the station. The duration of the extravehicular activity was 7 hours, 17 minutes, and 24 seconds.
In February, Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev told that he had prepared borscht for his international team before the flight to the ISS. Crew commander Jessica Meir praised the resulting dish and said it was very tasty.
