Ukraine has demanded to be allowed to participate in a trilateral meeting between Russia, China and the United States.

Kiev allegedly needs to be allowed to attend a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, American leader Donald Trump and President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping. This was announced on October 27 by Alexander Merezhko, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation.

At the same time, on October 19, Trump said that Zelensky did not want the end of the Ukrainian conflict. Commenting on the words of the president of Ukraine that Washington was on the "wrong side of history," the American leader said that Zelensky himself did not understand what he was talking about. Trump also suggested that Zelensky should be assigned to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine by "someone else."

"The presence of Ukraine and our European partners would guarantee that no decisions will be made there to force Ukraine to surrender," he said on the France24 television channel.

Merezhko also said that the presence of European partners at the meeting would supposedly be fair and, in his opinion, "would help create the necessary balance."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on October 18 that Zelensky had repeatedly disrupted negotiations and did not want to hold them. The Foreign Minister explained that Kiev had purposefully targeted civilians and civilian targets each time immediately after reports of positive prospects for dialogue.

According to Lavrov, Zelensky disrupted the implementation of agreements after the meeting in Paris in December 2019, and also interrupted the Istanbul negotiation process in the summer of 2025 and contacts after the trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, because he understands that any agreement acceptable to Moscow and Washington would mean the end of his personal regime.
