- The Israeli expert noted the growth in the quality of Russian wines over the past 15 years
Russian wines have improved significantly in quality over the past 10-15 years, and the domestic wine industry has great prospects for development. Chaim Gan, the founder and director of the Terravino International Wine and Spirits Competition in Israel, told Izvestia on October 22.
"It's an evolution. It's a huge evolution. It is impossible to compare your Russian wines 10 or 15 years ago with the wines that you produce today," the expert noted.
According to Gan, over the past five years, he has been tasting more than 120 Russian wines annually as part of his professional activities. The expert highly appreciated the development of domestic winemaking, noting the emergence of high-quality products, professional vineyards and significant investments in the industry. He also expressed confidence in the promising future of Russian winemaking.
In turn, VINALT CEO, organizer of WineFest Bolivia and international wine judge Luis Guzman, in an interview with Izvestia, highly appreciated Russian sparkling and white wines.
"I think sparkling wines in Russia are of the highest quality that I have tasted in the world," Guzman said.
According to the expert, during the first tasting he tasted several Russian sparkling wines, including pink, which made a particularly good impression on him.
Guzman also highlighted domestic white wines made from muscat. He noted their pleasant taste, almond notes and expressive aftertaste.
On the same day, Pavel Mayorov, Deputy Executive Director of the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia, said that the BRICS countries could not only expand wine trade, but also share their experience in viticulture and winemaking. According to him, cooperation should develop in three directions at once: the exchange of professional knowledge, joint scientific work and the study of government regulation systems, as well as trade in wine products.
The V Russian Wine-Making Forum is taking place in Gelendzhik on October 21-23 at the site of the Bely Mys Wine City. For the first time, the event is hosted by this complex, created by the ROSSIYA Joint-Stock Bank group. The area of the White Cape exceeds 4 hectares, its infrastructure includes the wine academy, a laboratory, tasting rooms, an enoteca, restaurants and the Lev Golitsyn Wine Museum.
The collection includes about 2 thousand items from 150 Russian wineries. The forum brought together industry representatives, experts, producers and investors to discuss the development of Russian winemaking, personnel training, scientific research and prospects for domestic products.
