The political scientist assessed the importance of the Volchansk boiler for the security of the Belgorod region

The creation of the Volchansk pocket made it possible to move the line of contact away from the Belgorod region, which was regularly shelled by Ukrainian forces. Political scientist Oleg Vedutov told Izvestia about this on October 17.

"This story is very important for both Ukraine and Russia. And the fact that Ukraine categorically denies the creation of this very cauldron and generally reacts extremely nervously speaks to the exceptional strategic importance of this victory," he stressed.

According to the political scientist, the encirclement of Ukrainian units can also create conditions for the further advance of Russian troops in the Kharkiv region in 2027.

Vedutov noted that the encirclement was the result of extensive training. According to him, first the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation disrupted the logistics routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and then occupied the remaining settlements and closed the encirclement ring. According to the expert, a small part of the Ukrainian soldiers remained inside it.

On October 16, the Russian army established full control over the Volchansk–Budarky highway, through which the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to lay logistics routes. According to the ministry, during the fighting, assault units provided adjustments for artillery strikes, and drone crews monitored the movement of Ukrainian equipment. The detected vehicles were destroyed before arriving at the positions, which made it possible to disrupt the delivery of ammunition and food.

Alexey Samoilov, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, head of the analytical department of the international movement "The Other Ukraine", told Izvestia on October 17 that the Volchansk pocket was the result of a well-planned and coordinated operation by the Russian Armed Forces. He noted that this operation exerted significant moral and psychological pressure on the command and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also showed the West that the Ukrainian army is not capable of resisting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
