The establishment of relations between Budapest and Kiev corresponds to the interests of both countries. This was announced on October 16 by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar.

"We (Magyar and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. — Ed.) agreed that the creation of a new basis for our political and economic relations meets the interests of both sides," he wrote on the social network X (former. Twitter).

The Hungarian Prime Minister praised the introduction by the Verkhovna Rada of the law on education for national minorities in Ukraine and called it the first step towards restoring "mutual trust." He also thanked the Ukrainian government for adopting a resolution recognizing crimes against Hungarians in Transcarpathia from 1944 to 1946.

Magyar said that he had agreed with Zelensky to continue negotiations at the ministerial level with a focus on improving the situation of national minorities in both countries. The Prime Minister added that Hungary intends to use all diplomatic means to accelerate the establishment and consolidation of peace between Russia and Ukraine.

On October 10, Magyar said that Budapest was not going to help Kiev with weapons, and also would not allow the transit of weapons through the territory of Hungary. At the same time, Magyar called for a gradual normalization of relations with Ukraine. He also once again emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
