One of the biggest problems of post-penitentiary probation remains the short period during which a person released from prison can seek help. Eva Merkacheva, a member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestia.

In fact, for post-penitentiary probation, a person must declare the need for help while still in the colony, she noted. And this is a serious difficulty, because many people initially do not declare this, only realizing in freedom that they cannot cope.

"In addition, the system stipulates that a person can seek help within just six months of release. But, again, he may not calculate his capabilities: he lived with relatives for six months, they fed him, and then, thinking that he had already adapted, he faced the fact that he could not find a job on his own," the source noted.

Therefore, former prisoners, according to the expert, should be able to contact the post-penitentiary probation center at any time and receive help there.
