In Moscow, they began testing color markings for selecting exits on the MKAD
On General Dorokhov Avenue in Moscow, they began testing colored road markings that help drivers choose the right exit on the MKAD in advance. The experiment, developed by data center specialists and coordinated with the State Traffic Inspectorate, will last at least a year, said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for Transport and Industry.
New navigation appeared on the avenue section when driving towards the region before the interchange with the MKAD. The blue markings indicate the direction to the north, the red — to the south. The colored elements are applied to the road with an interval of 15 m and duplicated on the road signs.
"At difficult junctions, it is important to help drivers choose the right direction in advance and avoid sudden lane changes before the exit. Therefore, we are testing the color markings on General Dorokhov Avenue. The experiment will last at least a year, which will allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of the solution in different seasons and under different weather conditions. Based on the results, we will decide whether it is worth using such navigation in other parts of Moscow," Liksutov said.
Color navigation serves as an additional guideline and does not replace the usual road signs and markings. Retroreflective microgloss beads were used to apply them — they make the lines more noticeable in the headlights at night.
The site for the experiment was chosen based on accident statistics. From June 2025 to June 2026, 95 road accidents were registered at the junction of General Dorokhov Avenue with the MKAD, 72 of which were related to violations of the rules of lane change and maneuvering. One of the objectives of the experiment is to assess whether additional navigation will help reduce the number of such incidents.
"We continue to improve road safety on behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin as part of the Transport Development Strategy until 2030," Liksutov stressed.
