The priest told about the festive service for the Intercession on October 14.
The main festive hymns and prayers of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, which is celebrated on October 14, are performed during the evening service on the eve of the holiday, on October 13. Vladislav Beregovoy, a priest and head of the missionary department of the Pesochenskaya diocese, told Izvestia about this.
"It is important to remember that all the chants dedicated to the celebrated event are performed the night before. The day of worship in the Orthodox Church begins in the evening. Therefore, it is advisable to come not only to the morning service on the day of the holiday, which can begin at 8:00, 9:00 or 10:00, but also to the evening service on the eve of October 13. For example, at 17:00. It is then that the main festive hymns are performed and the most important prayers are read," the priest explained.
According to Beregovoy, divine services for the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary are held according to the traditional church scheme. The main differences are in the content of the prayers and hymns dedicated to the holiday. The apostolic and evangelical readings, as well as the festive troparia, also change during the liturgy.
In addition, a distinctive feature of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the color of the liturgical vestments of the clergy.
"In addition, the holiday has a special feature related to the color of the liturgical vestments. On the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, the clergy dress in blue robes. Blue is the color of the sky, tenderness and love. This is the color of the Blessed Virgin Mary," Beregovoy said.
