Scientists have allowed the extinction of mankind by 2100 due to AI and nuclear war
Humanity may face the threat of extinction in the next 75 years due to the malicious use of artificial intelligence or nuclear conflict. This study was published on October 10 by experts from The Lancet magazine's commission on global health threats of the 21st century.
"The malicious use of AI, including biological weapons, and nuclear conflict with nuclear starvation carry the risk of extinction in the next 75 years," the report says.
Scientists have identified three main threat scenarios from AI: the development of biological weapons, the use of neural networks to manipulate public opinion and the use of autonomous weapons systems, as well as the possible loss of control over general-purpose artificial intelligence.
At the same time, the authors of the report emphasized that such scenarios are associated with high uncertainty. However, the potential scale of the consequences requires that they be taken into account when assessing global risks. Experts also noted the interconnection of threats and the need for an integrated approach to their prevention.
On September 26, The New York Times reported that OpenAI artificial intelligence agents had attempted unauthorized access to the Internet portals of three US government departments. Software agents tried to hack the official website of the US Department of Education to collect data, extracted official information from the database of the Census Bureau using the accounts of others found on the Network.
