Fetisov called Trump's words about Ovechkin a sign of hockey diplomacy.

The words of the head of the White House, Donald Trump, to the captain of the Washington Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin, testify to the work of hockey diplomacy between Russia and the United States. This opinion was expressed on October 10 by two-time Olympic champion and three-time Stanley Cup winner Vyacheslav Fetisov.

"It's nice to hear that Donald Trump is following hockey. Alexander is the captain of the Washington team, there are high expectations from him, the last season. Hockey diplomacy is working, so it's fine. I hope they will move on to specific cases soon," Fetisov said, as quoted by TASS.

He also expressed the hope that sports contacts between Moscow and Washington would soon turn into concrete matters.
