World championship

The World Judo Championship will end in Baku this weekend. The first in five years in which Russians and Belarusians perform under their own flags. In addition, the tournament is important because it can earn the most ranking points to qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In the last three days of the week, four more sets of medals will be awarded in individual championships in the two heaviest weight categories for men and women, as well as one set in mixed team competitions.

On October 9, judoka will compete in the women's up to 78 kg category, the only one where Russia is not represented, as well as in the men's up to 100 kg category, where Niyaz Bilyalov and Arman Adamyan will represent us. The next day, Alice Startseva and Maria Ivanova will compete in the over 78 kg category for women, while Valery Endovitsky and two—time world champion Inal Tasoev will compete in the over 100 kg category for men. On October 11, we will have a mixed team competition.
