Merz and German Economy Minister Reiche arrived in Kiev on an unannounced visit
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and German Minister of Economy and Energy Katerina Reiche arrived in Kyiv on October 4 on an unannounced visit. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on October 4.
They were met by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga at the railway station in the Ukrainian capital.
"I came to Kiev today because Ukraine needs our support in the coming weeks," Merz said after his arrival, as quoted by RBC-Ukraine.
The Chancellor also said that he intends to meet with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and assure him of continued support from Germany.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the opening of the IV Congress of the International Russophile Movement on September 17, linked the manifestation of Nazism with the support of Ukraine and drew attention to the statements of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about his intention to make Germany the main military force in Europe. The minister said that Russia will be able to respond to external challenges to its security and development of the country.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on August 3 that NATO and the European Union, which are actively sponsoring Ukraine, have themselves become part of an international terrorist network.
