US President Donald Trump is carrying out a large-scale restructuring of Washington, including the White House, surrounding areas, memorials and federal buildings. The Washington Post (WP) wrote about this on September 29.

"No modern president has done more to personally change the country's capital," the article says.

The administration plans to spend at least $900 million on construction projects in the White House. The largest of them was the construction of a ballroom complex with an area of about 8 thousand square meters on the site of the East Wing. The total cost of the project is estimated at $600 million.

The White House has already received a new helipad, an updated Rose Garden, gold elements in the Oval Office and a new decoration of the west gallery. Outside the complex, Trump is promoting the renovation of Lafayette Square, the Reflecting Pool, and the East Potomac Golf Course.

In addition, the president proposes to build a 250-foot (approximately 76.2 m) Arc de Triomphe, the National Garden of American Heroes and a new screening point for visitors to the White House. A number of the president's initiatives have already caused legal disputes and objections from architects, heritage advocates and local residents.

On August 7, the Reuters news agency reported that the US Federal Appeals Court had decided to block the project to build a ballroom on the site of the demolished East Wing of the White House. The court pointed out that the decision on the construction of such an object should be made by the US Congress, and not by the executive branch unilaterally.
