The Russian government has made changes to the nutritional standards of prisoners: fruits, juice and butter will be added to their diet. The relevant resolution has been published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

It is specified that for the convicts, apples or juice, butter, chicken eggs and cottage cheese were included in the diet. They will be given one fresh apple per week or 150 ml of juice, 10 g of butter daily, two eggs and 100 g of cottage cheese per week.

The changes will take effect from March 2027.

In April, Justice Minister Konstantin Chuychenko announced plans to review the diet of detainees in pre-trial detention. According to Chuychenko, it is planned to use iodized salt when catering for prisoners. He explained this by taking care of the health of those held in pre-trial detention in the northern regions of the country, where iodine is in short supply for the human body.
