Trump announced plans of detainees in the UK to damage the US port

Those detained in the UK on suspicion of crimes related to explosives intended to cause serious damage to one of the American ports. This was announced on September 27 by US President Donald Trump.

"They (the detainees — Ed.) were going to cause serious damage to our port," Bloomberg quoted Trump as saying.

The American leader positively assessed the operation of the British law enforcement agencies, during which five people were detained. According to the US president, before the arrest, these people were already in the field of view of the American special services.

On the same day, a state of emergency was declared in the Welford area near the British Fairford air base. It is specified that several men with explosives were detained near the base. Specialists from the army's explosive device disposal unit are working at the site. They're examining several cars.

Later, the British police launched an investigation into the incident in the Welford area. Armed police officers, ambulance crews and firefighters are working at the site. A specialized explosive device disposal team was also involved in the operation.
