Russian President Vladimir Putin supported Vyacheslav Volodin's third term as chairman of the State Duma due to the high results of his work. This was announced on September 25 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"At meetings with Volodin, the president repeatedly gave his assessment of the effectiveness of the work of the lower house of parliament. In this regard, of course, it is quite natural that the president supported and nominated him," RIA "Novosti" quotes him as saying.

Dmitry Medvedev, chairman of "United Russia" and deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said yesterday that the Russian leader supported Volodin's candidacy for the post of chairman of the State Duma. Volodin has already served as chairman of the State Duma twice — since 2016 he has been heading the lower house of parliament.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova said that following the results of the last elections, the "United Russia" party received 349 mandates in the State Duma. ""The Communist Party of the Russian Federation" also received 37 mandates, the Liberal Democratic Party — 23, "New People" — 19, "Fair Russia" - 17. One mandate went to the "Rodina" party, four more to self—nominated candidates.

On September 21, Peskov did not comment on the prospects of Volodin retaining the post of chairman of the State Duma in the new convocation. At the same time, he said that Putin highly appreciates the work of the eighth State Duma.
