The ECB has planned to introduce new euro banknotes from the beginning of the 2030s.
The European Central Bank (ECB) plans to start issuing new euro banknotes in the early 2030s. This was announced on September 23 on the official website of the regulator.
The updated banknotes will become more user-friendly and environmentally friendly. The developers also intend to integrate advanced security features into them to combat counterfeiting.
The final decision on the design of the new money will be made by the end of 2026. When choosing the design, the ECB Governing Council intends to take into account the technical assessment, the recommendations of an independent jury, as well as the results of a large-scale public opinion poll.
Voting on the design options took place from July 23 to September 21. It was attended by 9.96 million people from both Europe and other countries. According to the regulator, 2.6% of the population in the eurozone expressed their opinion. At the same time, young people showed the greatest activity: two thirds of those who voted were under the age of 35.
