"Panther" tank found under the university in Kazan was brought to the surface

In Kazan, the German Panzerkampfwagen V Panther tank, discovered on the territory of the Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU), was brought to the surface. Footage from the excavation site is published by "Izvestia" on September 24.

The 44-ton car was discovered by workers while dismantling a warehouse in the courtyard of the university. There was a gap under the building leading to the underground space where the tank was located. In the 1950s, "Panther" was used as an armored tank, a classified facility for laboratory research. Over time, due to the development of the site, the exact location of the equipment was lost.

"On the one hand, we knew about the existence of the tank. Of course, he has already become a university legend over the years. During the years when it was actively used as a laboratory facility, it was under a strict secrecy regime. After the object was abandoned and its location was lost due to the development of the site, it remained a memory," Denis Sakharnykh, head of the KNRTU History Museum, told "Izvestia".

According to the preliminary version, the tank has been preserved in a mothballed form. Sakharnykh suggested that this piece of equipment could have participated in the battles on the Kursk Bulge, after which it was delivered to Kazan as a trophy.

The university's press service reported on August 18 that a German tank had been found on the territory of KNRTU. It is assumed that Soviet scientists used the captured machine to carry out experimental work, in particular for testing explosives.
