The head of Rospotrebnadzor named the timing of the peak of flu activity in Russia

The peak incidence of influenza in Russia in the current epidemiological season will occur during the New Year holidays. This was announced on September 24 by the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova.

According to her, infection activity begins to increase over time, and the main rise is traditionally expected during the holidays, with a continuation in mid-January.

""The peak activity of influenza infection mainly occurs during the New Year holidays, then it is the middle of January," Popova explained in an interview with "RIA Novosti".

The head of the department clarified that, depending on the specific types of circulating viruses, the dates may slightly shift to the last decade of December. She stressed the importance of early vaccination so that citizens have sufficient immunity by the time of the outbreak of the disease.

Vaccination does not provide absolute protection, but it reduces the risk of complications.

The press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported earlier that day that 734 thousand cases of acute respiratory viral infections, influenza and COVID-19 were registered in Russia during the week, which is 33.8% more than the previous week. The agency also recalled the importance of flu vaccination and compliance with preventive measures.
